Useful Points On Ayurveda Postpartum

By Robert Gray

Soon after you give birth, you will feel tired and overwhelmed. According to Ayurveda postpartum care, after childbirth, a mother needs to take rest for about one and a half months or more. Elongated depression and lack of recovery will make a mother experience fatigue, stress, hemorrhoids, irritability and digestive problems that may be worse with time.

Extra care and support is needed during this period. As mothers feel exhausted, especially when transitioning into motherhood, with all those responsibilities, support and care are very important. If these needs are neglected, it may lead to problems later on. The mother also has to be in a peaceful environment. The room should be kept clean and quiet at all times. A daily warm massage keeps a new mother feeling relaxed and fresh.

The diet of the mother should be monitored at all times. She needs to be given freshly prepared foods that are important for both the mother and baby. This is because freshly prepared foods are highly nutritious and will be quickly digested providing you with nourishment for recovering. It is also important in ensuring that a child rests well. You should not consume leftovers when healing to avoid digestion problems. Since you will not be in a position to prepare the food yourself, your helper needs to offer you fresh food at all times.

Stomach wrapping is a traditional method that helps the body to restore organs and muscles to their rightful places and to fill in empty spaces. Soon after childbirth, wrapping your stomach helps in removing leftover chord parts. It will also ensure that you regain back your shape without being worried about floppy and saggy skin. Use a long piece of scarf and cloth that is comfortable.

The baby should be massaged. Using warmed herbal oil in massaging the body of a baby makes them comfortable. In addition, it can prevent colic and help in resting peacefully. The birthing process which they undergo is not easy and adjusting to new environments can be hard. Massaging should be done for about twenty minutes so that the bond between the baby and parent can be strengthened. It also prevents the baby from getting too fussy.

Take advantage of sleep. You should sleep as much as you can. When the baby is sleeping, you too should take that opportunity and sleep. It supports your immune system, mood, memory, and metabolism. Ensure that you seek help when you need it. When faced with depression, it is important that you seek the help of an expert.

You need to include herbs in your diet. Herbs help to support your diet and speed up recovery. You should first talk to your doctor prior to taking herbs especially when you are nursing. Fennel, cumin, dill and fenugreek seeds are very crucial in supporting lactation and improving digestion.

Stay indoors as much as possible and avoid visitors. For the first three weeks, you should only let the baby be cared for with the parents and the helper. This is because both the mother and baby are sensitive and you should be sure that those in contact with you two have good intentions. In addition, many people and their energy can be quite overwhelming for the both of you.
