A small tubal device is inserted into the uterus cavity to check on its condition using saline infusion. Here are details to consider in preparation for an HSG catheter test.

Locate a reliable medical expert first. A gynecologist can perform simple catheter tests but has to have a reliable experience in this process to ensure a remarkable outcome. However, for a woman who wants to acknowledge the cause of her infertility should consider looking for a fertility specialist who is much experienced in this process compared with an obstetrician.

Acknowledge the best duration to do the examination. The catheter examination should be done before ovulation. This means that it should be done between the fifth and tenth day after your menstrual cycle. This is usually preferred for women who have a history of stillbirths. Women experiencing abnormal ovulation should be checked for any pregnancy before the examination is done.

Consider any allergy that you might have. Uterosalpingography procedure uses saline products like iodine, novacine, and betadine which some women might be allergic to them. In case you might be allergic to these products, inform your physician early enough to ensure that he or she looks for an alternative product.

Ask about any medication that one should take before or after the assessment. A doctor can prescribe one to take inflammatory medication an hour before the tests. This is to reduce the pain that results from inserting the catheter inside the womb. The most used inflammatory painkillers are Advil and Motrin. After the procedure, you can be prescribed to take antibiotics to mitigate any likelihood of infections.

Carry a sanitary pad. A saline infusion can lead to leakage after the procedure is done. In that case, one should use a sanitary pad to avoid staining her clothes with the respective product. Besides that, one is supposed to wear non-restrictive and soft clothes since there are possibilities of feeling uncomfortable.

Take as much time as possible resting. You need to have a partner with you as you go for these kinds of examination since you cannot manage to drive in an uncomfortable situation. Moreover, there are high possibilities of cramps, feeling dizziness and nausea which cannot allow you to engage in intense working. The cramping might continue for a while and is advisable to rest until the pain is done.

Consider your payment. This kind of tests are quite expensive to afford, and one should look for measures to spare her expenses. Start by inquiring from your insurance company whether they have an option to cover fertility treatment. This will help in catering for some bills which spares your expenses. Alternatively, you can compare all the clinics that offer this service checking on one which has charges you can afford to pay.
